Written Exposure Therapy (WET)
WET is a structured 5-session program designed for PTSD. Sessions include a brief introduction, review of the previous session, and instruction followed by 30 minutes of writing. After writing, there is time to debrief for a total session time of 50-60 minutes.
Written Exposure Therapy Works.
WET was developed by the VA for veterans and others who have PTSD from military service. It has also been tested outside the VA and for people who have PTSD from other traumas.
WET works best for single-incident traumas or when there are multiple incidents of trauma that stand alone. If you have complex PTSD or have trauma from an ongoing source, EMDR may work better for you.
