Therapy that helps you understand not just what’s happening but why

Mindfulness practices and trauma-informed depth therapy that helps you move beyond just getting through into deeper, lasting change. A more supported approach to therapy with care between sessions when you need it.

I’m Jessica Brohmer, an online therapist based in Aptos and serving clients across California. I help people who are used to holding it all together but feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges to step back from the chaos and recenter the things that matter.

You’re here because trying harder isn’t working anymore

If the solution were obvious, you would have found it by now. You’ve tried the self-help tips, gotten resources, and made changes but nothing has meaningfully changed in the long term.

I work with clients who are looking for therapy that goes beyond general advice you could find on a podcast or in a self-help book. In our weekly sessions, we focus on what feels most alive right now- big emotions, relational tension, memories of formative experiences, recurring themes, and even dreams when they feel meaningful. Most importantly, we trust your intuition to highlight what’s important for us to discuss.

Your life isn’t simple. Therapy that works for you should reflect your reality.

I am committed to getting to the bottom of things with you. Real life is complex, and many of my clients sit at the intersection of multiple overlapping situations and identities that aren’t represented in simplistic solutions.

My training is both depth-oriented and trauma-informed. I integrate mindfulness and relational approaches to help both your nervous system and your internal narrative shift over time. I also draw from existential and spiritual perspectives to give you holistic support through our time together. If you’re looking for a highly directive therapist who will interrupt frequently or push you toward quick behavioral change, my approach may feel slower than you prefer. Creating a custom approach requires collaboration, reflection, and depth.

I don’t see therapy as something that only happens once a week. Creating real change requires a more connected and supported approach which can include check-ins between sessions, asynchronous messaging, or a brief extra call when something important comes up. For many people, this makes it easier to apply what we’re discussing to real life situations and talk through things as they happen instead of just after the fact.

All together, this means our work goes beyond the surface, even when we spend the week focused on practical skills. I believe it’s all connected and important. Clients often tell me they find new awareness and insights they’ve never gotten in previous therapy. The difference is that I’m attentive to patterns, looking out for subtle themes, and comfortable staying with complexity until something meaningful begins to unfold. I don’t believe insight alone creates change, and I don’t believe symptom management alone is enough. Lasting change happens when understanding, emotional processing, and nervous system regulation work together over time.

My clients often say I’m someone they can talk to about anything without being afraid of being judged or minimized. I believe everything matters in your story- the regrets, the painful moments, the self-doubt, and the joys that light you up. Nothing you share will make me pull away or see you differently. You don’t have to protect me from your story. Therapy is about learning to see yourself more fully so you can intentionally live by your values instead of unconsciously repeating patterns created by pain and avoidance.

Over time, therapy with me creates new patterns. You’ll react less automatically, set boundaries with less guilt, make choices that aren’t driven by anxiety or obligation. The critical inner voice softens, and you feel more aligned with your values and goals.

To me, the work of therapy is like tending a garden together. It’s an ongoing process, not one big transformation that changes things once and for all. Sometimes it’s taking out flowers you don’t like and replacing them with ones you prefer. Other times, it’s weeding out thick spiky thorns and digging up buried rocks so we can start planting. And sometimes it’s noticing that you have everything you like but it’s just not flourishing, so we need to dig down and address deeper, more fundamental issues in the soil.
