Trauma Therapy

Online support for healing and processing trauma in California

Does your past keep popping up in the present?

Maybe it’s something you saw or experienced at work, or maybe it was an accident or natural disaster. You may be realizing now as an adult that your entire childhood experience wasn’t exactly normal. Even everyday things like driving, having a relationship, getting a medical procedure, or being around fire might suddenly bring up memories and automatic reactions.

Whatever your background is, you’re beginning to notice the impact of trauma in every facet of your life:

  • Intense and uncontrollable reactions

  • Nightmares or really intense dreams

  • Feeling unsafe all the time

  • Intrusive thoughts and memories

  • Feeling like you’re stuck on the same issue that just keeps repeating

Trauma therapy can help

It may feel impossible now, but you can heal from trauma. You can help your body and mind learn to relax and feel safe when you actually are safe. You can overcome your trauma triggers and automatic reactions. I can help you get there.

Trauma therapy helps you:

  • Stop repeating harmful cycles

  • Have a great night’s sleep without nightmares

  • Reduce the present emotional impact of painful memories

  • React to present issues appropriately

I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique history, needs, and circumstances. My approach to trauma therapy comes from a place of understanding: your reactions to your trauma are part of your mind and body’s way of protecting you- and what was meant to be helpful has turned harmful.

It’s time to heal from trauma and let the past be past. I can help you get there.

FAQs about Trauma Therapy

What are trauma therapy sessions like?

This depends on your trauma history and your goals. I’m trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), and other trauma treatments. If you know you want EMDR or WET, you can let me know in the consultation. Otherwise, I’ll start by getting to know you and then I’ll let you know which options I feel are right for you.

How long do I need to be in therapy?

Again, this depends on the nature of your trauma. Sometimes, a single incident trauma like a car accident can be resolved in one or two sessions. WET is always five sessions per trauma incident. EMDR can be brief or extended. If you have an extensive history of trauma going back years, that can take longer to unpack and process.

How do I know trauma therapy will work for me?

We have many trauma therapies now, and they tend to be effective for most people. I have several different methods that I use, and I’ll let you know in the consultation process if they seem like a good fit for you. If I think you’d be better off with another method, I’ll tell you and help you find another therapist who can help- I want you to get the healing you need, even if it’s not with me.

How do I get started?

Contact me to schedule a free consultation. We’ll meet online for about 20-30 minutes. I’d like to get to know a bit about you and what you want from therapy, and you can also ask me questions about myself or about MBNET.
